The Eastern Caribbean never loses its charm, with its vibrant culture, breathtaking beaches, and crystal-clear waters. Some of my all-time favorite ports are scattered throughout this region, and no matter how many times I visit, it always feels like paradise.

The Porthole Stateroom

The staterooms aboard the Disney Treasure are beautifully themed after beloved Disney classics, including Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, Encanto, Up, Finding Nemo, Luca, and even a suite inspired by EPCOT. My dad and I stayed in a porthole stateroom, which, by luck, turned out to be an accessible room, giving us plenty of extra space to spread out and relax—a welcome bonus!

As a self-proclaimed Disney fanatic, I couldn’t wait to explore all the incredible venues around the ship. From uniquely themed bars and lounges to immersive restaurants, The Disney Treasure is packed with Disney magic at every turn. I was especially eager to see how the theming, design, and signature Disney details would come to life—and let me tell you, they did not disappoint!

But what truly makes Disney cruises stand out is how perfect they are for families or better yet a father/daughter vacation. With world-class entertainment, interactive kids’ clubs, character meet-and-greets, and adult-only retreats, there’s something for every age to enjoy. For my dad and me, the Disney experience was a nostalgic journey filled with youthful charm and cherished memories. It is no wonder Disney Cruise Lines is a top choice when it comes to BTA’s best cruise-lines that families that both adults and children will love.

Sailing on a Disney cruise over Christmas felt like stepping into a holiday wonderland at sea. From the moment I stepped onboard, I was surrounded by twinkling lights, festive garlands, and towering Christmas trees, instantly transporting me back to the magic of Christmas as a little kid. Every corner of the ship was decked out in dazzling holiday décor, creating the most joyful and heartwarming atmosphere. I loved watching Santa and my favorite Disney characters dressed in their holiday best, catching snowflakes as they drifted through the atrium, and cozying up with hot cocoa under the stars for a Christmas movie on deck. Every detail made the holiday feel extra special, and with no stress or planning on my end, I could simply soak up the pure magic of the season—just like I did when I was a kid!

Stepping into The Haunted Mansion Parlor felt like being whisked straight into the iconic attraction. Every detail—from the eerie ambiance to the carefully crafted furniture—was nearly identical to what you’d find in the ride. It was an immersive, spine-tingling experience that perfectly captured the essence of the Haunted Mansion.

With numerous sports events happening throughout our cruise, the best spot to catch the action was Periscope Pub—a bar themed after 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This space truly transports you into a submarine, complete with porthole windows, nautical details, and an immersive deep-sea ambiance… just with the added bonus of buffalo wings!

Sarabi is the go-to spot for nighttime entertainment, hosting events like Match Your Mate and the brand-new Indiana Jones: An Interactive Story game show. After 10:00 PM, the venue becomes 18+, creating a more exclusive atmosphere with a little extra freedom to let loose.

The space is Lion King-themed and spans two floors, but if you want to be in the heart of the action—whether it’s interacting during game shows or hitting the dance floor for Silent DJ—you’ll want to be on the lower level. Of course, no night out is complete without a great drink, and Sarabi’s bar delivers with a menu inspired by The Lion King and the African savanna, featuring both mocktails and cocktails with creative, themed flavors.

Just outside Sarabi, you’ll find the Walt Disney Theatre, home to Broadway-caliber productions on the high seas! One of the biggest highlights aboard The Disney Treasure was the brand-new stage adaptation of Moana—a breathtaking, incredible production that was well worth the wait.

Another favorite of mine, Beauty and the Beast, is also performed on this ship. Disney Cruise Line has put its own unique spin on the classic tale with fresh dialogue, creative props, and magical stage effects. But my absolute favorite moment? The final bows, when they bring a young guest on stage to bow as Chip—a heartwarming touch that makes the experience even more special.

Spa

Senses Spa, Outdoor Hot Tub, Private Couples Massage Hot Tub and Massage room

Unfortunately, I ran out of time to squeeze in a massage on this sailing, but I did get the chance to tour the Senses Spa—and wow, was it worth it! Spanning half of Deck 5 and conveniently located next to the gym, the spa is a quiet, luxurious retreat that instantly made me excited to return on a future cruise to fully unwind.

Having experienced Disney Cruise Line massages before, I can confidently say they are nothing short of amazing. Every time, I leave feeling refreshed, relaxed, and completely at peace—and after seeing this stunning spa, I can’t wait to come back and indulge in that experience all over again.

Dining 

Disney Cruise Line takes a unique approach to dining compared to other cruise lines. Instead of a single, massive main dining room, Disney features three distinct restaurants, which guests rotate through with their dining team in a set order throughout the voyage. Typically, the lineup includes one upscale restaurant, one with a live show, and one with an interactive element. And if you’re on a longer voyage, don’t worry—while you may revisit the same restaurant, the menu changes to keep things fresh.

Aboard The Disney Treasure, the three main dining restaurants are 1923, Plaza de Coco, and Worlds of Marvel—each offering its own immersive theme, incredible atmosphere, and, of course, delicious food.

Our dining rotation included:

• Night 3: Coco 
• Night 4: 1923 (Christmas Eve) 
• Night 5: 1923 (Christmas) 
• Night 6: Marvel

Plaza de Coco quickly became one of my favorite restaurants across the entire Disney Cruise Line fleet. Unlike the other dining venues, this is the only restaurant that serves chips and salsa instead of bread—a detail I absolutely loved.

The menu was thoughtfully curated, featuring authentic Mexican flavors that felt true to the culture and cuisine. And while the food was incredible, the dinner show made the experience even more special. It was heartfelt, beautifully executed, and full of emotion, capturing the essence of familial love in a way that truly resonated.

Worlds of Marvel is the same restaurant concept from the Disney Wish, which I also had the pleasure of experiencing on its Maiden Voyage. However, the show on The Disney Treasure took the experience to a whole new level—it truly blew me away.

One of my all-time favorite Disney park attractions is Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and a big part of my love for it comes from the upbeat, lighthearted music that creates such a fun vibe. The dinner show at Worlds of Marvel perfectly captured that same playful, energetic atmosphere, making it a thrilling and unforgettable dining experience.

Christmas Desert at 1923, The Place Setting, and Goofy Outside on Christmas Eve

1923 is another returning restaurant from the Disney Wish, serving as the elevated, upscale dining option aboard the Disney Treasure. Unlike the other main dining venues, there’s no dinner show—instead, the experience is all about soaking in the elegant ambiance and appreciating the subtle, thoughtfully designed décor.

My dad and I had both Christmas Eve and Christmas dinner in 1923, and it couldn’t have been more perfect. The refined atmosphere, paired with an incredible menu, made for a memorable and special holiday experience.

Palo Steakhouse is, without a doubt, one of my favorite fine dining restaurants on the planet. Everything about it—the impeccable service, the sophisticated ambiance, and the elevated culinary experience—makes it truly special. Since Palo is 18+, it offers a more refined and intimate dining atmosphere, perfect for a leisurely, indulgent meal.

One thing I’ve always admired is the dedication and expertise of the Palo team. I’ve spoken with several servers, and to earn a spot at Palo, they must be among the best of the best from the main dining rooms—a distinction that’s not easily achieved. Their knowledge of the menu, wine pairings, and overall dining experience is astonishing. I’ve never had anything less than exceptional service at Palo, and there’s even one server, Silvio, whom I’ve had the pleasure of seeing on multiple cruises.

One of the ongoing debates between my dad and me is Palo Brunch vs. Palo Dinner—and honestly, there’s no wrong answer. Palo Brunch offers the best of both worlds, with a mix of breakfast and lunch favorites, plus a complimentary mimosa to start. I always struggle with whether to go for breakfast or lunch, but at Palo Brunch, I don’t have to choose—I can have both, enjoying the highest-quality omelet or the most incredible chicken parmesan on the seven seas.

That said, Palo Dinner has one major advantage: the legendary chocolate soufflé. While Palo is known for its outstanding steaks, the soufflé is the true star—but unfortunately, it’s not available during brunch. So, there’s always a little give and take when deciding between the two.

On The Disney Wish and The Disney Treasure, the perfect pre-dinner stop is The Rose, a stunning, Beauty and the Beast-themed bar that sets the mood for a magical evening. Whether brunch or dinner, every visit to Palo is an unforgettable experience.

The Quiet Cove while at Port

The Ports

The Quiet Cove is a serene, adults-only escape located on Deck 13 aft, offering a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of the ship. This tranquil space features a hot tub, an infinity pool, a bar, and a café stocked with delectable pastries—the ideal setup for ultimate relaxation.

The views from the infinity pool and water baths are nothing short of breathtaking. Whether you’re gazing out at the endless ocean or watching the ship’s wake trail behind, the scenery is mesmerizing. And when docked in port, the almost 360-degree views of the surrounding landscapes—especially in the lush Eastern Caribbean—make for an unforgettable experience.

The itinerary we sailed is specifically one of my favorites, including: 

• Tortolla, British VI 
• St. Thomas, USVI 
• Castaway Cay (Disney’s Private Island)

Jost Van Dyke Beach, Tortola

My dad and I made sure to hit all the must-see attractions in both St. Thomas and Tortola, making the most of our time in these beautiful ports.

On Christmas Eve day, we docked in Tortola and set off on a Disney Cruise Line excursion to the stunning Jost Van Dyke Beach, famous for its Painkiller cocktail—a must-try for visitors! As if the crystal-clear waters and soft sand weren’t enough, adorable goats were wandering around, which honestly made my entire Christmas Eve.

This excursion quickly became one of my favorites. The weather was perfect, the water was the ideal temperature for swimming, and the waves were just right—gentle enough to relax in, but still fun to play around in. It was the perfect way to spend a holiday at sea!

Maegan’s Bay, St. Thomas

On Christmas Day, we docked in the beautiful St. Thomas, one of the U.S. Virgin Islands. For the day’s adventure, we joined a Disney Cruise Line excursion to Magens Bay, a must-visit beach known for its breathtaking scenery and tranquil waters.

Compared to Jost Van Dyke, Magens Bay was more crowded, and the water was noticeably calmer, but the atmosphere was still incredible. My dad and I found the perfect shady spot, settled into our beach chairs, and simply relaxed, soaking in the beauty of the island.

Castaway Cay, Disney’s Private Island

After 29 Disney Cruises, I’m no stranger to Castaway Cay—Disney’s private island. I grew up visiting this slice of paradise, and somehow, it never gets old. Whether it’s riding a banana boat, taking a glass-bottom boat tour, parasailing, kayaking, water tricycling, or snorkeling, there’s always something fun to do. Personally, my favorite activity is snorkeling. In the designated snorkeling area, there are sunken Disney artifacts, which make the experience that much more thrilling and unique.

The food on the island is also spectacular—something both my dad and I look forward to every time we visit. There’s a grill serving up a variety of meats, pasta salads, and fresh fruit. And don’t forget the self-serve soft-serve machine, which we frequent without fail.

But what I’ve come to love most in recent years is Serenity Bay, the adults-only area of the island. It’s where you’ll find some of the best cabanas, including a few massage cabanas. On past trips, we’ve had the luxury of booking a cabana, and let me tell you, it’s an experience all on its own.

Overall, The Disney Treasure exceeded my already high expectations, and I can’t wait to sail on it again. That said, I do find myself missing the more classic, nautical-themed aesthetic of the first four Disney ships—Magic, Wonder, Dream, and Fantasy—which had a slightly less overtly Disney-inspired design. But that’s the beauty of Disney Cruise Line—there’s truly a ship for every style and preference, ensuring that every guest finds the perfect fit for their voyage.

Q&A with BTA Advisor Jennifer and Her Husband Chris:

What were your first impressions upon boarding the SeaDream yacht? Chris & I  were looking for an opportunity to step away from our fast paced lives and spend time together somewhere tropical.  As “No Shoes Radio” fans, we have always dreamed of exploring the BVI’s by yacht visiting the iconic “Swim Up Bars” we’ve heard so much about over the years. We envisioned dropping anchor, hopping on the sand, and bellying up to a good beach bar. And SeaDreams Yacht Club did not disappoint!  

Can you describe the accommodations and amenities onboard? What stood out to you the most?  Our SeaDream cabin was luxurious and spacious.  We are not typically what you would call a “cruiser” but we have had opportunities to be onboard other yachts before.  Our cabin was very comfortable and our steward was extremely helpful and personable.  Everyone onboard addressed us by our names and we loved all of the extra personal touches that were provided for us such as our own monogrammed pajamas!

This is one of the many reasons why SeaDream is considered one of the best cruise lines for “non-cruisers.”

How was the dining experience on SeaDream? Any favorite dishes or dining venues?  The food on board SeaDream was fabulous!  Our meals offered fresh locally sourced options and there was an incredible variety of choices with every meal. I really recommend requesting a private, romantic table to dine on the top deck “under the stars.”

What were some of the highlights of the Caribbean itinerary during your sailing with SeaDream? We spent most of our time swimming in the crystal clear water, snorkeling, and tanning on the beautiful white sand. Our favorite spot was Shoal Bay on the island of Anguilla. The SeaDream arranged our transfer making the adventure incredibly smooth and relaxing. 

How was the service and hospitality provided by the crew members? All of the crew members were extremely kind and personable. Everyone greeted us by our name and went above and beyond when any requests were made. In the evenings, you can unwind on a Balinese bed on the top deck, where complimentary champagne is served for you to enjoy while stargazing. This is just one of the many thoughtful touches the crew provides to make your experience truly unforgettable.

Did you participate in any onboard activities or excursions? If so, which ones were your favorites?  Yes, Chris is an active traveler while I enjoy more of the local cultural experiences while visiting each port.  SeaDreams’ travel style provided us with the ideal mix of activities to keep Chris engaged while also allowing me to explore the islands like a local. Chris spent each morning on a bike ride with the captain and crew on the complimentary bikes available on board the yacht. Then, we enjoyed our afternoons together: snorkeling, diving, and rum tasting at local distilleries.  

How was the interaction with fellow guests onboard? Did you find it easy to socialize and connect with others?  Chris and I connected with many like-minded people on board SeaDreams, making it easy and enjoyable to forge new friendships. We had a great time with other couples during excursions, and the atmosphere was light and carefree, encouraging singles and solo travelers to mingle and socialize as well. The top deck was the perfect spot for guests to enjoy a cocktail and take in the stunning seascapes before dinner.

Now that you’ve sailed on SeaDream Yacht Club, is there anything you wish you had known before embarking on your first SeaDream sailing?  Dress on board SeaDream is casual yet stylish. While a collared shirt is preferred by me at dinner, a jacket is not necessary.   

Would you sail SeaDream again?  Is there an itinerary you can recommend for 2024 or 2025? Absolutely!  We currently have our eye on two SeaDream itineraries: Yachting The Greek Isles and Morocco & The Costa del Sol!  We can’t wait to see where our next SeaDream adventure takes us!

Wow, wow, wow – this is what I have to say about sailing with Regent. I was recently given the incredible opportunity to experience first-hand what it’s like to sail aboard a luxury cruise. As the owner of a boutique travel agency and experienced travel advisor, I believe that we can best serve our clients by experiencing the destinations, accommodations, tours and services before promoting them to our travelers. Having been on many luxury trips throughout my personal and professional life, I expected a high level of service and luxury. However, when sailing with Regent, I was not expecting to be completely blown away! 

While cruising is a prevalent niche within our agency, and we have senior advisors with a deep depth of cruise knowledge and experience, this was my first experience sailing on a luxury ocean cruise, and in particular, sailing with Regent. Now, I don’t think I can ever go back.

Sailing on a Luxury  vs. Non-Luxury Cruise Line

Although this was my first experience on a luxury ocean cruise, I’ve sailed more contemporary lines, such as Azamara and Celebrity. I am also fond of traveling by river cruise. However, until now, I relied more on our client’s feedback, our cruise specialists, training, and my relationships with our cruise partners to understand how other cruising styles compare to a luxury cruise experience. Each cruise line and itinerary has a specific appeal. The hardest part for most travelers is knowing which cruise is the right fit for you! 

The luxury cruise lines do not nickel and dime you on drink packages with a la carte port excursions, gratuity add-ons and extra costs for special dining. They often include special promotions on business class air (knowing that their clientele prioritizes traveling by air in comfort), which cannot be matched on price elsewhere. The added costs that mass-market cruise lines charge can quickly add up to more, making luxury cruising more valuable. Take it a step further, and let’s compare luxury cruising to a luxury land itinerary; this is where you can really experience unexpected savings traveling aboard a luxury cruise. By the time you add up the cost of a land itinerary from every hotel stay to the cost of luxury private transfers, first-class commuter flights and train tickets, gratuities, and private tours, not to mention the cost of meals and libations to make your vacation. Just think of splurging at the expense of a private yacht charter for the day. Aboard a Regent sailing, you will find a quiet secluded place to retreat and enjoy the sun and sea as if you are lounging aboard a private yacht. 

If you are wondering whether a luxury cruise will elevate your travel experience, let me share what convinced me it’s a better value for most travelers (even if it may cost you more).

• My mother accompanied me on my first luxury ocean cruise. Would I enjoy cruising with my husband and other friends who want to join us? Absolutely. But, I liked that luxury cruising accommodated multi-generational families of parents and their adult children, including an adult mother-daughter duo. My mom was so impressed with Regent, and I felt that the cruise line provided amenities that mattered more to her. For those sailing as a family, check out our previous blog. 
• As we age, a cushioned lounger and comfortable chairs in a theatre or in common areas where we would play board games for hours are more important. The more experienced staff and a higher crew-to-passenger ratio are values of a luxury cruise that elevate the experience but can be necessary for senior travelers.  
• The cabins are absolutely incredible! Not only are they cozy and inviting, but they are also more spacious than comparable category cabins on a deluxe or mid-range cruise line. Even though we were in one of the entry-level cabin categories, which have less square footage than the upgraded suites, I was surprised by how much we enjoyed spending time in the room. It was so elegant! The color pallets were sophisticated and classy, and the décor made you feel like you were in a space designed for royalty. From the fancy decorative pillows to the spacious, well-equipped private balcony, we were encouraged to relax, unwind, take in the scenery and read a book. Typically, I do not spend nearly as much time in my room on a cruise, but I was obsessed with our Regent cabin. I also really liked the bathroom, which was both luxurious and spacious, and do not get me started on the closet space. Many multi-million-dollar homes do not have as lovely bathrooms and closet space in their master bedrooms. 
• As a travel advisor, Regent allowed me a sneak peek into the ship’s most intriguing suites, and oh my, talk about impressive! Additionally, Regent provided access to their management for invaluable Q&A sessions. We were also offered in-person training sessions and educational materials to help us better understand what sets sailing with Regent apart from sailing with other cruise lines.
• I was even welcomed to a cocktail party hosted by a loyal Regent sailor in his stunning 4443 square-foot Regent Suite. The panoramic view from the balcony was spectacular, and with the pianist playing in the suite and other welcoming touches, every guest felt a sense of glamour and fortune. 

Throughout our sailing, my mother and I noticed the added value of a luxury cruise ship’s common areas and amenities such as a spa, workout facility, pool & hot tubs, eateries, business center, pickle ball court, and common areas. The swimming pools on non-luxury cruises are far more crowded on other cruise ships, and the loungers are not nearly as comfortable or impressive. As a result, I have not wanted to use these facilities on past cruises as much, however, I found myself lounging by the pool more frequently when sailing with Regent. 

Sitting poolside or on the top deck of the Regent SS Splendor, where complimentary shaded umbrellas, loungers, and tabletops modeled what you find poolside at a Four Seasons, coupled with the attentive and friendly cabana service, was one of the highlights of our time onboard. The benefits of complimentary laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing service are a big deal, especially on a longer itinerary with pre and post-cruise. The bonus of this service might even convince my mom to pack half as much the next time we relive our mother-daughter luxury cruise experience!

A Sense of Community

The community feel of a luxury cruise rivals a backyard picnic with the neighbors. We felt like new members of a welcoming country club. We met new friends who joined us for a game of Scrabble and taught us how to play Rummikub.

When sailing with Regent you will be entertained by a unique program where you can ask to dine with other guests. Finding this concept interesting, we chose to eat with other cruisers for two dinners. I recommend that you do this early into your cruise, as it provides a natural way to meet others on the ship. If you want a mix of privacy and socializing, you will see value in luxury cruising, as it provides the best both environments offer. By the end of the cruise, my mother and I could entertain ourselves differently based on our interests. When sailing with Regent, we found entertainment for all different interests. For example, I met active friends, and we enjoyed playing pickleball and meeting up in the gym for studio classes. My mom is a bit of a card shark. Let’s just say that I appreciated that she was treated as a VIP by the staff in the casino. The TLC they provided my mom made me feel comfortable leaving her alone to enjoy what she likes to do while I ventured into the lounge for live music and other fun entertainment. 

• By the end of the sailing, my new friends would check in on my mom in the casino to say hello and make sure she didn’t need anything. They did this without me asking.  
• The all-inclusive nature found when sailing with Regent, in my opinion, is the most significant value of a luxury cruise that first-time and even seasoned cruisers might overlook. If you are a business class air traveler, including the cruise line’s contracted air in their pricing can save you thousands of dollars. I also like that many luxury cruises include the cost of excursions in their base price. The a la carte pricing of tours & activities feels like you are being nickeled and dimed. The same goes for specialty dining, a luxury cruise value typically included in the base price. When excursions are separately charged, there is a tendency for cruises to limit or cancel excursions if they do not have enough people signed up.

The Exclusive Enrichment Series

Another secret sauce of Regent, in particular, is their Exclusive Enrichment Series. All Regent voyages create opportunities for travelers to learn and engage with other travelers as well as industry experts. From enriching presentations by artists, scientists and thought-leaders to cooking classes led by expert chefs, these programs enhance the overall experience and provide tremendous value on a luxury cruise. You have to evaluate the enrichment and unique programs commonly found on the luxury cruise, including cooking classes, lecture series, and more intimate yet unassuming social networking opportunities.

The Benefits of Cruising

Of course, you would expect the value of a luxury cruise to include a higher quality ship, upgraded amenities, more impressive cabins, and lower staff-to-passenger ratios. However, I found that these were just the expected benefits of luxury cruising. Once you sail on a luxury cruise, I think it will be more challenging to sail any other way unless you take a cruise with children. In this case, I recommend you check out my blog on Celebrity Cruises and the perspective shared by my teenage niece Chloe, a cruise line that is an excellent choice for families with teens and young adults who want more entertainment and nightlife.

For those travelers that prefer to travel by land, you might find a sweet spot for a luxury cruise, where maybe every couple of years, you incorporate a cruise into your annual travel plans. I am convinced that the convenience of not having to pack and unpack, combined with the amenities and service that rivals your favorite boutique hotel, will have you sailing away in your dreams. Did I mention I had some of the best sleep while sailing with Regent on the SS Splendor?

Tips For Booking A Luxury Cruise:

• It’s not one-size-fits-all. Just because your mother’s, friends’, sister had a great time on a particular cruise does not mean it’s the right fit for you. Selecting a cruise is about more than choosing the right cruise line. It’s also about finding the best itinerary that matches your personal interests and goals. It’s about choosing the right cabin to meet your individual needs and travel style. Do you want to be close to the elevator or tucked away at the back of the boat? Finally, it’s about selecting suitable travel companions to accompany you on your journey. 
• Timing is everything. Many avid cruisers place their names on wait lists to get priority on booking the best cabins and most desirable itineraries. Knowing when a cruise will release their future sailings positions you to select the best options. While many cruisers opt to sail in peak season, choosing shoulder-season sailings can provide tremendous value, fewer crowds in popular ports and cheaper flights to get to your destination.
• Comparing apples to oranges. While the entry price points for a luxury cruise may seem high compared to more mainstream cruise lines, remember that they are not an even comparison. Luxury cruise lines include gratuities, drink packages, specialty dining, excursions and other amenities that add up to thousands of dollars. At the same time, the entry-level cabins on a luxury cruise line align more closely with upgraded cabin categories on mid-market lines. Unless you are happy with a tiny, windowless interior cabin, you will likely be spending significant money to upgrade to a cabin with a picture window or balcony. When factoring in the added costs, the prices are much more comparable.
